Out This Week - 2nd January 2012

The Maccabees - Pelican

Many are predicting that 2012 will be the year that The Maccabees officially make their move up into the big league, and the band themselves have said that they've finally found their own sound. New single 'Pelican' (to be followed by third album 'Given To The Wild' next week) hints that they might just do it. Already gaining them some major radio play it builds to become one of their best tracks to date.

Guided By Voices - Let's Go Eat The Factory

The indie world got very excited about the news that the classic line-up of Guided By Voices was reuniting for a new album, and it hits stores in the US this week (the UK will have to wait another 2 weeks, or grab an import). We've already given you first single 'The Unsinkable Fats Domino', and here's another from 'Let's Go Eat The Factory' - free download 'Doughnut For A Snowman'.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - The Absent

The typically bright and cheerful guys from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have given us a free holiday treat in the shape of 'The Absent'. Festive it's certainly not, rather good it certainly is. It comes with this message from the band: "Sorry it's not a super happy song, we don't mean to be downers. Happy Whatever Day you like to call it. Peace, love and all that stuff from us."

Bombay Bicycle Club - Leave It

The rise of Bombay Bicycle Club has been a sly one, coming from relative obscurity to have two top 10 albums out of the blue. This week sees the release of of new single 'Leave It' which comes in acoustic and remixed versions, along with two other tracks from recent album 'A Different Kind Of Fix', but you can check out the rather lovely original version below.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

Shearwater - Animal Life

One of the albums we're most looking forward to this year is the new one from Texans Shearwater, which will be with as in February. They've kindly given us a preview of things to expect with new track 'Animal Life' which is suitably grand, starting humbly before building to become 'quite something', resulting in the first OROTW of the year. If you liked 2010's stunning 'Castaways' then this track will be right up your street.
