Lucius - Don't Just Sit There

Hi Brooklyn! This band of yours called Lucius sound rather good. We really like this track 'Don't Just Sit There' from their new 'Lucius EP'. Especially the way is starts of slowly and then gradually adds instrumentation and harmonies until it becomes really quite grand, and then goes off into some Pink Floyd guitar atmospherics. We'd like to hear more from them please.

Moonlight Bride - Lemonade

Right, that's enough faux conversations for one post. Moonlight Bride are a quartet from Chattanooga who formed about five years ago and have recently released a new EP entitled 'Twin Lakes' from which free track 'Lemonade' is taken. They explore familiar US alternative/indie/pop territory with just the right noise to melody ratio and some lovely choruses.

Polica - Dark Star

Polica are a spin-off band from Gayngs, featuring two of their members in their line-up. They're not a million miles away in sound, but with 'Dark Star' they've come up with a track that surpasses just about everything their other band have done. This is a brilliant piece of slightly smooth, 80s-influenced pop with plenty of guts and some great production.

Paul Cook & The Chronicles - Phoney Love

The ever generous Paul Cook & The Chronicles are offering their new single for free (well, you can leave a tip if you like but they're advertising it as free) via Bandcamp.  'Phoney Love' is just the kind of pretty acoustic, harmony drenched tune we've come to expect from them. They're sounding as tender as ever and the word is that more songs are being written as we speak.

Dark Dark Horse - Ethics

Cheltenham Festival week is upon us, and following an insider tip we’re jumping at the chance to stake our reputation on you backing Dark Dark Horse. The Leicester pair have been in the starting stalls for some time, releasing their first album ‘Centuries’ in Japan back in late 2010, but now the blinkers are on and eyes are set firmly on bursting out of the pack in the UK. Available for free from the bands website 'Ethics' is slow burning, layered electronica in the vein of James Yuill and is a perfect marker for the emotive essence of the duo's debut record. Well worth a flutter of anyone’s cash but even better for nothing!
