Band To Check Out: Lola Colt

Movie buffs will probably be aware that Lola Colt is the name of a 60s spaghetti western film, but the moniker has been borrowed by this powerful London sextet whose music has a suitably cinematic feel that would happily lend itself to a soundtrack. Theirs is a moody and intense sound and has seen them land support slots with The Warlocks and TSOC faves Spotlight Kid amongst others, yet music of this quality deserves the headline status that will surely become par for the course for them.

Immediate listens call for comparisons to the likes of PJ Harvey or Anna Calvi, both of whom possess a similarly dramatic sound and domineering vocal. The creaking stomp of 'I Get High If You Get High' bridges alt-rock, shoegaze, indie and punk with masses of passion and brawn. Patti Smith would be another worthy comparison. 'Boom Boom Blasphemy' also shows off their ambitious ideas and soaring guitar squalls. It's a potent mix that should make for a startling live experience.
