The Electroscopes - Made A Mistake

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

What with it being a small world and all that, this band from Northampton are releasing their new 7" single on Berlin-based label Firestation Records, so I guess that helps with publicity abroad. As for the UK it doesn't seem like they've had a great deal of coverage so far and are prone to keeping a low profile. They're not fans of social media it would appear. So that's scuppered our research somewhat, but that doesn't matter one iota. The music's here and we can listen to it, and that's what it's all about. So The Electroscopes new track 'Made A Mistake' will be a limited 7" vinyl; i.e. get in quick to avoid disappointment.

It's a gorgeous track too and inhabits a space all of its own. Remove it and you'd probably find a void of some kind. This is a mixture of indie and electronica, which is pretty much what the rest of the music world is doing, but not in the same style as these guys. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what it is about this song, but it definitely has a timeless appeal and could have been made at any point in the past 20 years. There are bloops and blips and a vocal pleading "just because I made a mistake, doesn't make me bad". No The Electroscopes, you're not bad at all.
