Promised Land Sound - Empty Vase

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

It wasn't too long ago that the words "country rock" would be enough to have me running in the opposite direction as fast as my little legs could carry me. The sins of the past have been washed away in recent years, with artists such as Jack White, Band Of Horses, Beachwood Sparks, Cat Power, My Morning Jacket and others all making very good music which has that influence to it. We were reminded that many heroes of the past (The Byrds, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, even The Rolling Stones) made great records, not abominations like Garth Brooks and Shania Twian. Justice had been done. Add Promised Land Sound to the list of good guys.

They're from Nashville, they've released a single on Jack White's Third Man Records and they share more in common with garage-rock than any hillbilly notions you may have. Their self-titled début is out for download next week with physical copies hitting the shops on September 30th. From it is 'Empty Vase', a rock n' roll song in a true sense of the word, but modern in style. They take the same ethics that turned country and rockabilly into the forms of music we now know and love whilst keeping things raw and always with a spring in their step. If you like your guitars not to be too polished then you need to check out this band.
